The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is fast approaching. Hundreds of devotees of Lord Ganesha took part in a 'kalash yatra' before the installation of the statue at Shani Temple on P Road on Sunday.

Women took out a kalash yatra and chanted bhajans to praise the lord. The devotees also played with colours and flowers. They distributed 'modak' as 'prasad'.
As per traditions, it is necessary to circulate the statue of Lord in the nearby areas of the temple before installation.

Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Vinayak Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi. It is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. The festival is observed during the month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September). In Maharashtra, the festival lasts for 10 days, ending on 'Ananta Chaturdashi'.
